I was born in South Florida, near the Atlantic coast. I am an artist and creative writer in her spare time, and enjoys gardening. I used to be a physical enthusiast and have competed in numerous foot races and triathlons, and even did a little rock climbing in the Catalina Mountains of Tuscon, Arizona. I am also a practitioner and experienced instructor of yoga.
I have always pursued a future with books. I graduated from Indian River Community College (now Indian River State College) in Fort Pierce, Florida in 1998, and from the University of Florida in 2000, with a Bachelor’s Degree in English. I received my Master’s Degree in 2006 and doctorate in 2010, both from the Florida State University in Literature: The Long 18th Century in Britain & Ireland, with a Minor Concentration in Rhetoric & Composition.
I live with my partner, our two young children, and my stepson in Tallahassee, FL.

My research focuses on eighteenth-century British periodicals and novels, particularly by women, and their construction of discourse and discourse communities. I look at the ways in which female writers sought to create more comprehensive, conversational spaces for themselves within the periodical and novel markets. My most current research focuses on the intersection of eighteenth-century periodicals and novels and English legal practices around sexual assault and victim testimony. I presented my initial research, entitled “’Receiving the Impression’ of Rape: An Evolution in Eliza Haywood’s Female Spectator to The Invisible Spy”, at the annual SEASECS conference in February 2019, and a chapter on that work will be published in a a special collection on Eliza Haywood through Routledge press.
My chapter entitled “A Spectator View: Teaching The Female Spectator with Eighteenth-Century Rape Narratives” cam out in the MLA’s 2019 edition Teaching Eliza Haywood, in which I discuss pedagogical strategies for teaching eighteenth century texts to two-year college students. Ultimately, the way we look at these earliest constructions—and reconstructions—of media offers us insights into the way we are experiencing and constructing those spaces today.
