BAINBRIDGE – The Carter Arts and Lecture Series at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College’s Bainbridge campus and the Georgia Poetry Circuit’s 2023-2024 season is gearing up to bring the arts to Bainbridge.
“ABAC Bainbridge is proud to present another year of enrichment and educational value for our area,” said Dr. Michael Kirkland, executive director for ABAC Bainbridge. “We are thankful for the Thomas M. and Irene B. Kirbo Foundation’s continuing support as well as that of First Port City Bank. We welcome the entire community to enjoy these free events.”
The series begins on Sept. 25 with Broadway’s Next Hit Musical, featuring master improvisers who gather made-up hit song suggestions from the audience as part of the “The Phony Awards”.
That opener is followed by Dr. Frederick R. Davis’s lecture “After Silent Spring: The Expansion of Pesticides in Agriculture in America and the World” on Oct. 19.
The Carter Arts and Lecture Series is sponsored by The Thomas M. and Irene B. Kirbo Foundation and the First Port City Bank.
The Georgia Poetry Circuit was founded at Mercer University in 1985 and is a consortium of 10 Georgia colleges and universities working together to bring poets of national and international reputation to member campuses annually, providing important access to the literary arts for Georgia residents across the state.
This season’s lineup begins with CM Burroughs on Nov. 8.
Burroughs’ poetry has appeared in journals and anthologies including Poetry, Ploughshares, Cave Canem’s Gathering Ground, and Best American Experimental Writing, and she is the author of The Vital System and Master Suffering.
Both the Carter Arts and Lecture Series and the Georgia Poetry Circuit will continue in 2024.
All events will be held at the Charles H. Kirbo Center or on the Bainbridge Town Square and are free and open to the public with no ticket required to attend. All events will begin at 7 p.m.
Individuals or businesses interested in supporting Arts & Culture at ABAC as a sponsor can contact Randi Hickman at rhickman@abac.edu or call her at (229) 391-4902.
The Carter Arts and Lecture Series is committed to enhancing the educational experience by bringing compelling speakers, distinguished authors, and performing arts to the campus. These events are designed to bring the campus and community together to educate, inspire and spark the imagination.
