TIFTON – Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College is gearing up to host ThunderCon, the first ever pop culture convention on campus, on Sept. 9.
ThunderCon is sponsored by ABAC’s Office of Student Activities and Campus Activities Board in collaboration with Gray Ghost Comics.
The multi-genre convention will provide ABAC students, faculty, staff, and alumni, as well as members of the Tifton community and surrounding areas, with an opportunity to engage in inclusive activities focusing on a wide variety of interests and hobbies.
Convention topics include anime, comic books, video games, sci-fi, fantasy, trading card games, and many more. All types of vendors and artists are welcome to attend and participate.
Among the activities will be several panel discussions: “Mr. Miyagi’s Wisdom for Improving Student Academic Performance” presented by Dr. Hans Schmeisser and “Exploring the Magic of Disney as a Professional” presented by Naomi Chance.
The featured guest will be prolific voice actor Joshua Seth, who voiced roles in series such as Digimon, Wolf’s Rain, Dual Masters, and Akira.
Shawn Burnette, Coordinator of Student Activities, said that they are currently booking vendors and ticket sales have opened for the event.
ThunderCon will be held on the second floor of ABAC’s Carlton Center from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m.
Admission is free for ABAC students that are taking fall classes, and all convention attendees will receive a 20 percent discount at the Stallion Shop.
