Dr. Harper is originally from Bainbridge, Georgia and loves being with family and friends, and traveling. She started her college education in Bainbridge at Bainbridge State College (which is now an ABAC site). She received a Bachelor's Degree in Biology from the University of Georgia, a Master's Degree in Biology from Georgia Southern, and a PhD from the College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Florida.
Dr. Harper enjoys teaching a wide variety of science courses and their laboratories including: BIOL 1107, BIOL 1108, SCIE 1005, SCIE 1006, BIOL 2011, BIOL 2012, BIOL 4260 (Pathophysiology), and BIOL 4890 (special topics in biology specifically associated with study abroad programs).
Dr. Jenny Harper has conducted research with marine mammals, especially the Florida manatee. She is specifically interested in environmental impacts to the manatee and their habitat. Dr. Harper is also interested in anatomical studies of marine mammals and their behavior. In the future, she would like to conduct student research involving environmental impacts on marine ecosystems, behavioral studies of marine mammals, and international conservation efforts.
Dr. Harper's favorite thing to do with students at ABAC are study abroad programs. She has led programs to Belize, Ecuador and the Galapagos Islands, Spain, England, France, Italy, Germany, Czech Republic, Hungary, and Austria. She will be traveling in 2021 to Italy and Greece and teaching a class on conservation and management for this trip. Dr. Harper is also the advisor to the Pre-Vet Club.
