ABAC Spotlights First Responders on Life Safety Day
TIFTON – Safety took center stage at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College on Wednesday as the front circle of campus came alive with flashing lights, demonstrations, and interactive displays for Life Safety Day.
Students, faculty, and staff spent the day connecting with first responders from across the region—including ABAC Police, EMTs, and Georgia Department of Natural Resources game wardens—who showcased their work and the many ways they help keep both ABAC and surrounding communities safe.
“Events like this give our students and employees the chance to see the people and tools behind the badge,” said Interim Chief of Police Mike Tompkins. “We want everyone at ABAC to know that safety is a shared effort. The more our community understands what we do and how we respond, the stronger and safer our campus becomes.”
The event transformed the front circle into a hands-on learning hub. Visitors explored emergency vehicles, tested safety equipment, and spoke with professionals about topics ranging from alcohol awareness to mental health and coping strategies. EMTs demonstrated oxygen equipment; SWAT officers displayed specialized gear like a battering ram, and game wardens brought one of their patrol boats for an up-close look at their fieldwork.
For ABAC President, Dr. Tracy Brundage, events like Life Safety Day highlight the College’s ongoing commitment to protecting and empowering its community.
“Today, we bring those initiatives together with one clear goal: to educate, prepare, and empower our community to prevent emergencies and respond effectively when they occur,” Brundage said. “Life Safety Day is more than demonstrations and displays—it’s an opportunity to build connections between students and first responders, between neighbors and agencies, and across our entire campus. Together, we’re creating a culture of prevention, preparedness, and care for one another.”
Life Safety Day is part of ABAC’s continued focus on fostering a secure, supportive environment where learning, living, and safety go hand in hand.
