ABAC Names New Chief of Police
TIFTON — Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College (ABAC) is pleased to announce the appointment of Mike Tompkins as the Chief of Police, effective November 10, 2025.
Chief Tompkins has served ABAC with distinction for more than 17 years, most recently as Assistant Chief, and brings extensive experience, leadership, and dedication to this vital role. Throughout his tenure, he has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to the safety and well-being of ABAC’s students, faculty, and staff. His approach to campus policing is rooted in community engagement, proactive service, and a deep understanding of ABAC’s mission and values.
Deidra A. Jackson, Vice President for Finance and Operations, said Chief Tompkins’ appointment reflects both his professional excellence and his connection to the ABAC community. “Chief Tompkins brings a rare combination of operational expertise and a deep understanding of the student experience,” Jackson said. “His longstanding commitment to campus safety and his collaborative leadership style make him exceptionally well-suited to lead the ABAC Police Department. I am confident in his ability to guide the department with integrity and purpose, and I look forward to working with him in this new capacity.”
ABAC President Dr. Tracy Brundage also emphasized the vital role of safety in supporting student success and the college’s mission. “The safety and well-being of our entire campus community are foundational to ABAC’s mission and essential for our students to thrive,” Dr. Brundage said. “Chief Tompkins has consistently demonstrated the professionalism, compassion, and leadership that reflect ABAC’s commitment to providing a secure and supportive environment for our campus. I am confident that under his leadership, our Police Department will continue to foster a culture of trust and service that empowers our students and strengthens our community.”
In accepting the position, Chief Tompkins expressed both gratitude and enthusiasm for the opportunity to continue serving ABAC. “It is an honor to be selected to serve as Chief of Police at ABAC,” Chief Tompkins said. “This college community means a great deal to me, and I am proud to continue working alongside such a dedicated team of officers who serve with integrity and care every day. Together, we will build upon our strong foundation of safety and community engagement to ensure ABAC remains a place where everyone feels welcome and protected.”
The ABAC Police Department consists of a team of highly trained and dedicated officers who work around the clock to safeguard the campus community. Chief Tompkins’ leadership will further strengthen their efforts to provide a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment for all.
