ABAC campus improvements total more than $12.5 million

ABAC students returned to campus this fall following more than $12.5 million in improvements to residence halls, dining facilities and student spaces.

“ABAC is committed to providing an exceptional college experience both inside and outside the classroom,” said Deidra Jackson, vice president for Finance and Operations. “These projects represent a significant investment in our campus and in the success of our students. We want our facilities to reflect the quality of the education, opportunities and sense of community that define the ABAC experience. These improvements will create modern, welcoming spaces that enhance learning, engagement and campus life."

More than $6.5 million has been invested in improvements to ABAC’s residence halls, including ABAC Place 200 and Lakeside.

Place 200 has undergone extensive renovations, including wood-grain vinyl tile flooring throughout apartments, hallways and common areas, new paint throughout the building, new HVAC systems and new full-size extra-long beds and mattresses.

Lakeside also received new HVAC systems, along with extensive renovations to its common areas. Improvements include ceramic tile flooring, new carpet in the grand atrium, new lighting, fresh paint, new furniture and a new built-in reception desk area.

Safety and accessibility have also been improved in the residence halls. At all residence hall buildings, doors have been upgraded to a new keyless entry and digital access system, three new elevators have been installed, and a new security camera system has been implemented.

The improvements build on ABAC’s reputation for having the No. 1 residence halls in Georgia, as designated by Niche and University Magazine.

Donaldson Dining Hall also received a major renovation, with more than $5.5 million invested in improvements to the dining experience.

The project includes renovations to the kitchen and serving areas, as well as additional seating created by reclaiming the former private dining area. A new private meeting and dining space is also being added on the south side of the building. The space will be completed by February 2027.

Serving areas have been reconfigured and feature new flooring and décor. A new Grab & Go station has also been added.

Branch Hall received an extensive second-floor renovation designed to create a more inviting and functional lounge for students to meet, study and spend time together. Branch Hall’s balcony area features fans and new outdoor seating.

“These projects are about much more than new floors, furniture and features,” ABAC President Dr. Tracy Brundage said. “They are about creating spaces that support our students and make ABAC an even better place to live, learn and build community.”

Brundage said the investment reflects the college’s continued commitment to improving the student experience.

“ABAC is growing, and as we welcome another class of students to campus, we want them to see that we are growing with them,” Brundage said. “From the residence halls and dining facilities to the spaces where students gather, these improvements show that we are investing in the future of ABAC and, most importantly, in our students.”
