About the Office of the Provost

The Office of the Provost and Academic Affairs is responsible for planning, developing, and implementing the overall academic vision and goals for Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College. The office provides guidance and support for our diverse faculty, students, and staff by allocating resources for a learning environment that promotes engagement and intellectual achievement. The Provost is responsible for providing faculty leadership, planning and implementing academic and student affairs policies, providing guidance in the development of curriculum, promoting core educational values and integrity, and for fostering academic excellence. The Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs is a member of the President’s Administrative Cabinet and works to coordinate campus-wide decision making leading to the fulfillment of our mission. 

We carry out our mission through four schools: the School of Agriculture and Natural Resources, the School of Arts and Sciences, the School of Nursing and Health Sciences, and the Stafford School of Business. The support offices associated with the Office of the Provost provide essential assistance: Office of the Dean of Students and Student Affairs, Office of the Registrar, the ABAC Libraries, Office of the QEP (Quality Enhancement Plan – STEPS (Student Engagement Programs), Office of Institutional Effectiveness and Research, Center for Teaching and Learning, Enrollment Management, Academic Support and Testing, Office of Student  Development, Multicultural Education, Sponsored Programs, Academic Support and Testing, and the Honors Program.

Institutional Effectiveness

The mission of the Office of Institutional Effectiveness at ABAC is to demonstrate how well the College succeeds in accomplishing its mission and meeting its institutional goals and outcomesThe Office of Institutional Effectiveness collaborates with ABAC’s administrative, academic, and student support units to identify expected outcomes for academic programs, administrative services, and academic and student support services.

Institutional Research

The task of Institutional Research at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College is to provide data about the campus and analytical services to academic and administrative decision-makers and external constituents in a manner that is accurate, consistent, understandable, and timely. The goal of the department is to support strategic planning, policy formulation, and analysis of ongoing operations to further the teaching, research, and service missions of the College.

Grants Management

The Office of Sponsored Programs (OSP) is ABAC’s home for grants and contracts with federal and state funding agencies. Operating under the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs, it assists with identifying funding streams, drafting applications, and managing projects. OSP provides both Pre- and Post-award services to faculty and staff, helping Principal Investigators and grant teams at every point in the funding cycle. The Office works closely with other ABAC units to facilitate grant operations and ensure compliance with applicable federal and state requirementsOur mission is to promote, facilitate, and support sponsored projects, beginning with the seed of an idea through project close-out, enhancing ABAC’s State College missions of undergraduate education, teaching, and service. This is accomplished while maintaining responsible stewardship of external funds, as prescribed by applicable regulations and core values of the College.

Institutional Review Board (IRB)

The mission of ABAC’s IRB is to regulate and advise ABAC faculty, staff, and students with respect to research involving human subjects, hazardous materials, hazardous procedures, or other research activities that may present a risk to employees, students, or the public. Activities meeting the ABAC IRB definition of research must receive prior approval.

Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC)

ABAC’s Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) oversees all research conducted on non-human vertebrates. The goals of ABAC’s IACUC are to facilitate undergraduate and faculty/staff research opportunities by ensuring compliance with the Public Health Service Policy and Animal Welfare Act regulations and enable research results to be published in peer-reviewed literature where IACUC approval numbers are often required.
