Learning Support is a University System of Georgia program for entering students who need additional assistance for college-level English or math.

A student’s Learning Support requirements are determined on the basis of the Required High School Curriculum GPA, SAT/ACT scores, required high school curriculum deficiencies, and/or college placement exam scores.

A student must meet one of the following exemption criteria to go into English 1101:

Has transferable credit for English 1101 or equivalent OR
High School College Prep GPA ≥ 2.7 OR
ACT English ≥ 17 OR
SAT Reading + Writing ≥ 470 OR
SAT Reading Test ≥ 24 OR
Next-Generation Accuplacer Reading ≥ 237 and WritePlacer ≥ 4

Students who do not meet one of the above exemption criteria will take the co-requisite support course, English 0999, along with English 1101.

Mathematics Placement Guidelines for Quantitative Reasoning (Math 1001) & Minimum Requirements for College Algebra (Math 1111) with Co-requisite Support A student must meet one of the following exemption criteria to place directly into Quantitative Reasoning (Math 1001) or College Algebra (Math 1111) with co-requisite support (Math 0999):

High School College Prep GPA ≥ 3.1 OR
ACT Mathematics ≥ 17 OR
SAT Math ≥ 440 OR
SAT Math Test ≥ 22 OR
Next-Generation Accuplacer QAS ≥ 258

Students who do not meet one of the above exemption criteria will take the co-requisite support course, Math 0997, along with Math 1001. Also, students who do not meet one of the above exemption criteria are not eligible to take College Algebra (Math 1111), until they successfully complete Math 1001.

Mathematics Placement Guidelines for College Algebra (Math 1111) A student must meet one of the following exemption criteria to place directly into College Algebra (Math 1111):

High School College Prep GPA ≥ 3.2 OR
ACT Mathematics ≥ 20 OR
SAT Math ≥ 510 OR
SAT Math Test ≥ 25.5 OR
Next-Generation Accuplacer QAS ≥ 266

Students who do not meet one of the above exemption criteria will be eligible for the co-requisite support course, Math 0999, along with Math 1111; as long as the student meets the minimum criteria as outlined under the placement guidelines for Quantitative Reasoning (Math 1001).

ACCUPLACER is an English and Mathematics placement exam, which new students can take to exempt corequisite learning support requirements. There is no cost to take the Accuplacer the first time for those who have applied to ABAC. A $35 testing fee is required for each additional attempt.

Students can take the placement exam a maximum of three times.

Any retest must be completed before you attend the first day of class. Retesting is not allowed after classes begin.

Remote Placement Testing

Want to test at a school other than ABAC? Follow these instructions: 1. Register through the link below to take a placement test at another institution. 2. Once you've registered, the ABAC Testing Center will email you within 48 hours (excluding weekends) to provide additional information and study material. 3. After your test is completed you will be contacted by email within 48 hours (excluding weekends) to discuss your result.
