Tuition Assistance
- Services members wishing to utilize Tuition Assistance (TA) should speak with their Educational Services Officer (ESO) or counselor within their branch of military services prior to enrolling in ABAC or any institution.
- The Tuition Assistance (TA) program pays the cost of tuition and some additional fees. Nearly all active duty military service members are eligible for TA. However, each service branch determines eligibility criteria that often reduce access. Tuition Assistance covers up to 100% Tuition and Fees, not to exceed $250.00 per semester credit hour or $4500.00 per fiscal year.
- Since military funding is limited, it is important for all service members to use all their resources in making any educational decision.
The Military Tuition Assistance (TA) program is an important quality of life program that provides tuition for college courses taken by active duty personnel during off-duty hours. TA is capped at $250 per semester hour (or $166 per quarter hour) and is restricted to a maximum of $4500 per fiscal year. The program is one of the most frequent reasons given for enlisting and re-enlisting in the Air Force.
How To Apply
Applications are routed using the Air Force Virtual Education Center online platform. Airmen and Space Professionals may apply for tuition assistance up to 45 days prior to the start of their class date. The adjustments should help equitably stretch funding, but should fiscal year funds become exhausted at year end, service members who did not get their applications approved will have to wait until the new fiscal year’s funds are available to apply for tuition assistance.
Submitting Information to ABAC
- Submit the following documents to the ABAC Office of Student Accounts as early as possible to receive your confirmation of Tuition Assistance (TA):
- Copy of your DD214 (if applicable).
- Copy of your approval document from TA

- Once we receive all of the items listed above, we will confirm your eligible enrolled hours. Funding will post to your student account in eStallion, so you may review any outstanding balance in eStallion.
- After your eligible benefits have been certified by the Office of Student Accounts, an updated College Financing Plan will be available on the Banner Student Landing Page including your TA Benefits. *Only VA benefits sent directly to ABAC will be shown on the College Financing Plan.
Tuition Assistance (TA) is financial assistance provided for voluntary off-duty education programs in support of a Soldier’s professional and personal self-development goals.
Tuition Assistance requests are made through ArmyIgnitED.
To start the process, follow the steps below:
Go to ArmyIgnitED and sign in with your CAC card.
- Once the student account is established, select the education goal. Select education level, school and degree you want to pursue.
- Once your education goal has been approved by your ESO/ESS, select the Virtual Benefits Training link; after that is completed, select TA Requests and issue funding.
- Your assigned education counselor will review your tuition assistance request (TAR) and approve or reject it. You will receive an email stating the status of the TAR and the steps to follow, if necessary.
- Send TAR to financial aid. Once processed funds will be applied to student invoice.
Important Notes:
- All drops/withdrawals must take place through ArmyIgnitED. Soldiers who do not successfully complete a class will be required to repay the TA. Soldiers who are unable to successfully complete a class due to military reasons must request a Withdrawal for Military Reasons.
- TA requests must be approved prior to the first day of class.
- Tuition Assistance (TA) is available to members of the active duty Army, Army National Guard or Reserves beginning ONE YEAR after the completion of Basic/AIT.
- You can receive up to 18 semester hours per Fiscal Year (1 Oct. through 30 Sep.)
- Pays up to $250 per semester hour towards your tuition only. Can not exceed the amount of tuition charged.
- If you are on the Hope Scholarship, TA will only pay the portion of the tuition Hope does not cover for each class you are requesting TA.
