About Tuition and Fee Waivers

Waivers are granted only after required documentation to validate waiver eligibility from the requester and notification from the Office of Student Accounts. All waiver requests are evaluated according to Georgia laws, Board of Regents policy, and ABAC policy.

The Office of Student Accounts maintains the list of approved waiver types, eligibility requirements, and notification of approval of the various waivers.

Because ABAC is a state-funded institution, students must show proof of residency to qualify for in-state tuition. Students who are legal residents of Georgia are entitled to pay in-state tuition as a benefit of paying state taxes. It is the student who has the burden of proof for documenting their residency for tuition payment purposes.

Please note: establishing domicile for in-state tuition payment purposes is different than establishing residency for other purposes, such as to obtain a driver’s license.

Waiver of Non-Resident Fees

Waivers are for students who do not meet the qualification for a Georgia-resident status.  However, the Board of Regents has defined situations whereby a student may still be eligible for in-state tuition and fees for a 12-month period.

 The waivers listed below will cover the difference between in-state and out-of-state tuition for 12 months.  The students eligibility for these waivers listed below must be reviewed annually.

Petitions filed after the final deadlines listed above will be considered for the following semester.  If a petition is approved, it will not be retroactive to prior semesters.  Notification of the petition decision will be sent to the student’s Stallion email address.

Submit the petition will all supporting documentation at one time.

Petition for Georgia Tuition Classification

The Petition for Georgia Tuition Classification is for students wishing to contest their current non-resident tuition classification status.  See link below.  (Use your ABAC email credentials).

 GA Residency Support Documentation is a list of supporting documentation which may be submitted as evidence of domicile.
