Registration open for ABAC Cattle Classic, scheduled Sept. 14
The Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College Cattle Classic is set to take place Saturday, September 14 at the Tift County Extension Office, located at 1468 Carpenter Road.
The event, scheduled to begin at 10 a.m., is open to students from fourth grade through 12th grade. A registration fee of $40 per calf includes a special event t-shirt. Each exhibitor may show up to two heifers and/or two steers, and the show is limited to 100 cattle.
The event is open to the public, providing a fun-filled day for families and cattle enthusiasts alike, featuring vendors offering food, show supplies, and recruitment information for interested and future ABAC students.
Participating high school seniors who will be attending ABAC in the fall of 2025 can apply for the Dr. Jim and Marion Young ABAC Cattle Classic Scholarship, which will be awarded based on showmanship results, an industry quiz taken on the day of the show, and the completion of an essay by September 6.
”Offering a scholarship to future Stallions is an important goal of the ABAC Pre-Vet Club because we want to offer opportunities for students to advance their education experiences, as well as recruit wonderful individuals to our beautiful campus," said Dr. Jenny Harper, Professor of Biology and Pre-Vet Club Advisor at ABAC School of Arts and Sciences. "ABAC and the Pre-Vet Club look forward to bringing families from across the region to Tifton and our college through the cattle show to enjoy all the fantastic things we can offer and provide to the next generation of students.”
The scholarship application link can be found on the registration site. Harper said there are also event sponsorship opportunities for businesses and organizations interested in supporting this event. The deadline for sponsors to secure their participation is August 30.
“This is a fantastic opportunity for sponsors to gain exposure and contribute to the success of the ABAC Cattle Classic,” she said.
Participants and attendees can check in between 7-9 a.m. The program is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. and will conclude between 3-5 p.m. To ensure participation in the ABAC Cattle Classic, interested individuals must submit their entries online at https://abaccattleshow.theshowportal.com/ by Friday, September 6.
