ABAC Spring Band Concert scheduled for April 8

The Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College Concert Band’s annual spring concert, scheduled for Tuesday, April 8, will be a musical passport around the world.

“We invite you to be a part of the travel experience without leaving your seat as the evening of music will take you to many countries,” said Dr. Jennifer Huang, ABAC Fine Arts Director. “The ‘Passport’ concert is sure to give you the feeling you have been on a long trip only to be home in a short while right here at ABAC.”

The ABAC Saxophone Ensemble, conducted by woodwind professor Sheri Wyles, will offer pre-concert entertainment.

ABAC Band Director Deborah Bradley will open the program with ‘American Fanfare’ by Rick Kirby, as well as Spanish favorite ‘Espana Cani,’ and ‘Affirmation,’ a contemporary piece by Randall Standridge.

Wyles will conduct a classic selection titled ‘LaBelle Hellene’ by Offenbach. Guest conductor Barry Golden from Metter will conduct ‘Ammerland,’ an impression of the enchanting lakeside region of Germany, and ‘Pachinko,’ which gives listener an impression of playing a Japanese pinball machine.

ABAC Voice Professor Marti Schert will perform the Johnny Mercer classic ‘Moon River’ and Jazz Professor Dr. Andrew Peal will perform as a trombone soloist, playing ‘Georgia on My Mind’ as arranged by Robert W. Smith.

Doors open for the concert at 7 p.m. at ABAC’s Howard Auditorium. This event is free and open to the public.
