The criminal justice system and the ways in which criminal acts are investigated and prosecuted is a significant part of our conversations, both nationally and locally. As a student in the Criminal Justice bachelor’s program at ABAC, you will be prepared for a wide variety of career options with law enforcement, corrections, and government or nonprofit entities or to pursue a law degree following your graduation.
In your studies, you will develop a deep understanding of the theories and research that underpins modern criminal justice practices, gain the critical thinking and analytical mindset to research and evaluate new concepts and solutions, and build a solid foundation of ethical and professional standards for your future work.
What You Will Study:
You will receive the same phenomenal general education core that all ABAC students study in their first two years as a Stallion. In these classes, you will learn and work alongside students from every single major on campus, gaining insight from and sharing experiences with a diverse cross-section of the student body.
Following your core curriculum, you will dive deep into several areas of study focused on building your skill set. Depending on the track you choose for your criminal justice degree, you will take courses focusing on:
• Policing theory and practice
• Criminal investigation
• Criminal law
• Ethical issues in law enforcement
• Behavioral profiling
• Racial, cultural, and other social issues in policing
• Forensic science and psychology
• And more!
Your ABAC learning won’t end in the classroom. Through internship opportunities, you will be encouraged to further develop your skills through real-world applications. As you work on building your experience base with government agencies, businesses, and other entities, you will also begin to cultivate a network of contacts and colleagues who will be able to help you thrive after graduation.
Career Paths:
With your bachelor’s degree, you will be started on a path to a number of rewarding careers or areas of interest, including federal, state, or local law enforcement or corrections. Current officers may pursue this degree to obtain promotions and leadership opportunities that can influence current and future generations of law enforcement officers.
