Bachelor's Degree: BS
Study where we are going as well as where we have been. ABAC’s Bachelor of Science in History and Government is Georgia’s only degree combining these two closely intertwined fields. In this program, you will study a balanced curriculum of both history and political science courses to explore issues
related to race, political theory, international relations, economic development, violence, sexuality, political behavior, and more.
The result? A deeper understanding of the historical perspectives behind the current political environment than you would receive from a traditional political science degree.
In your studies, you will build a strong set of critical thinking skills and learn to recognize and appreciate the endless diversity of perspectives and experiences that have created the world in which we live and which will continue to shape the future. With a special emphasis on rural issues, the program will prepare you to enter the workforce as a socially aware, critical thinker or to pursue further studies in graduate or law programs.
What You Will Study:
You will receive the same phenomenal general education core that all ABAC students study in their first two years as a Stallion. In these classes, you will learn and work alongside students from every single major on campus, gaining insight from and sharing experiences with a diverse cross-section of the student body.
In addition, you will take a wide range of required and elective courses in your field of study. With considerable flexibility in which courses you take, you will be able to shape your ABAC experience to prepare you for your chosen degree field or post-ABAC studies.
Courses available include:
• World and American history
• Rural history
• Cultural and environmental history
• Historical research methods
• Political and social research methods
• Political science
• Ethics
• Public policy and rural administration
• Law
• Finance
• And more!
Outside of the classroom, ABAC connects students with internship opportunities with local and state government agencies, businesses, and other entities where you will be able to get hands-on experience in your field of interest. In addition to building your skills and knowledge base in a professional setting, you will begin to build a network of colleagues and contacts who can offer advice and networking
opportunities as you complete your studies and start your career.
With your bachelor’s degree, you’ll be started on a path to a number of rewarding careers, including:
• Political Scientist
• Lawyer
• Lobbyist
• Public Relations Specialist
• Journalist
• Teacher
