Eligibility
Upward Bound serves high school students from low-income families and high school students from families in which neither parent holds a bachelor’s degree. Upward Bound aims to increase the rate at which participants complete secondary education and enroll in and graduate from institutions of postsecondary education.
Participants must meet the following eligibility criteria:

High School student in grades 9 through 12

Have a grade point average of 1.7 or better

Be enrolled in a college preparatory curriculum

Member of a low-income family and/or family in which neither parent has a bachelor's degree (4-year degree)
Program Content
The project design consists of three major components:
- Academic Year Component: includes two hours of tutoring after school at each of our target schools and a once a month Saturday session held on ABAC's campus.
- Bridge Component: exclusively for those participants who graduated from school during or at the end of the school year. It is conducted in the summer and designed to prepare the participants for the transition from high school to college. They are enrolled at ABAC taking 6 hours of coursework.
- Summer Residential Component: a five-week college simulation experience held on ABAC's campus. Students live in ABAC housing taking classes taught by a mixture of ABAC professors and Georgia-certified high school teachers.
Activities
The project activities include, but are not limited to the following:
- Classroom instruction: English, Reading, Science, Art, Journalism, Computer Science, Math, Speech and Drama, Ethnic Studies, and Foreign Language, SAT/ACT Preparation
- Seminar and workshops: financial aid/financial literacy, human sexuality, alcohol and drug abuse, interview skills, health and wellness, etc.
- Self-Growth Support: advising, study skills instruction and tutoring, career exploration, financial aid assistance, social and recreational activities, cultural enrichment, educational trips

- Classic Program includes Coffee, Irwin, Tift, and Turner Counties
